Reaction #1 Procedure:
0 Add about 2 mL of hydrochloric acid to a small test tube.
0 Obtain a 2-3 cm strip of Mg metal ribbon and coil it loosely into a small ball. Add
the magnesium to the
test tube. Carefully feel the sides of the test tube; observe the reaction for N30
seconds.
0 While the reaction is still occurring, light a wood splint and quickly place the
burning splint in the
mouth of a test tube. Do not put the splint in the acid solution. Record your
observations:
Hydrogen gas reacts with oxygen gas to produce dihydrogen monoxide. (And a loud
pop.)

7) Suppose 91.25 g of hydrochloric acid reacted. How many grams of hydrogen are
in that many grams
of hydrochloric acid?
Reaction #2 Procedure:
0 Place a small amount of ammonium carbonate in a clean and dry test tube. Gently
heat the salt in the
test tube over a Bunsen burner flame
o Quickly light a wood splint and insert the burning splint about halfway down into
the test tube. Record
your observations:
Ammomium carbonate decomposes to form ammonia and carbon dioxide and water

are in that many moles
of ammonium carbonate?
