Spiritual Program: Half-Day My Purpose Retreat

Objective: The goal of this event is for students to come up with a purpose for their lives.
Every student wants a purpose or direction for his or her life. This event will include a
speaker and then time for students to reflect on questions through journaling alone.
When students are allowed to take time and reflect on their lives they will hopefully leave
with more direction and purpose in life.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of this event students will
-Compose a purpose for their life that encourages them to live life to the fullest
-Analyze their wants and enjoyment in life in order to find their purpose
-Demonstrate thoughtful reflection as a result of this program
-Summarize their direction and/or purpose in life
Program Logistics:
-A month to two months before the event schedule a guest speaker who will be able to
guide students through life purpose and reflection, which will lead them to solitude
reflection. Also, request a room in which the event will take place.
-Two weeks before the event buy journals, pens, decorations, make a schedule, order
refreshments, and write down thoughtful questions for reflection.
-Day of the event after the speaker speaks have students go out on their own to a time of
solitude and reflection on the questions the speaker brought up. Tell them to be back in
1-2 hours. When students arrive back allow for discussion time and closing thoughts
from the speaker.
-Questions to reflect on: Who are you? What do you want? Whats the plan?
What conflict must you engage in? What are the stakes?
Evaluation: Before students leave the event, they will fill out a survey that will ask them
about their experience at the half-day retreat. As a result of this survey the feedback of
students will provide professional staff to better evaluate the learning outcomes and the
program as a whole.
