Tutorial No. 9: Cascade Control
Brief Description:

Given that cascade control can dramatically improve the performance of feedback control
system when designed and implemented correctly, tutorial number 9 thus provides exercises on
the proper design of cascade control which serves to address this importance by using the
cascade design criteria as basis for the proper selection of cascade control. It was also determined
whether the cascade control is possible as designed, and if not make the appropriate changes to
achieve cascade control.

Technical Generalization:

A cascade control system is a multiple-loop system where the primary variable is controlled
by adjusting the set point of a related secondary variable controller. The secondary variable then
affects the primary variable through the process. The primary objective in cascade control is to
divide an otherwise difficult to control process into two portions, whereby a secondary control
loop is formed around a major disturbances thus leaving only minor disturbances to be controlled
by the primary controller.
