Interaction SIOP Model

Interaction- provides communication between student to teacher and student to student, that can
be enhanced through multiple methods such as:

Sufficient Wait Time- gives student three to seven seconds to respond to a question that is
posed by the teacher. This will increase the length of student responses, the frequency of
student questions, student to student interactions, and the number of responses from less
capable children.
Group Consensus- The teacher will as specific review questions while the students get
into groups of 4 or 5. Each group will discuss answers until they reach a consensus.
Answers will be submitted to the teacher and points can be scored for the winning group.
Provide opportunities for clarification in native language, if possible
Academic Relays can be used to increase interaction between students
