For over 20 years Claude has served with distinction as one of Formula SAE’s special design judges. Claude's expertise is recognized throughout the automotive engineering community and we are proud to have him as a member of the FSAE judging team. In addition to his work as a judge, Claude also conducts a series of engineering seminars for students through his company Optimum . SAE’s goal for the Formula SAE competitions, as Claude will tell you, is not just for students to build vehicles. Formula SAE is an engineering education program and the student designed vehicles are only one element of that program. Developing a competitive vehicle requires students to expand and improve their engineering design and project management skills. Student teams invest thousands of hours in developing their car and an important part of the return on their investment is the chance to get feedback from Claude and the other expert judges. Claude is one of our most recognized design judges and he willingly gives his time to evaluate student designs and work with the teams. He challenges the students to explain and justify the reasoning behind their design decisions and then gives them thoughtful critical feedback. Claude’s interaction with the students enables him to pass some of his expertise to the next generation of engineers. We appreciate Claude's understanding of both the FSAE’s guiding educational philosophy and the general requirements for organizing a competition.
