Zimmerman Telegram

The Zimmerman telegram or as others call it, the Zimmerman note. It was a diplomatic proposal
from the German Empire for Mexico to join an alliance with
Germany in the event of the United States entering World
War 1 against Germany in 1916. The telegram was a coded
message sent from German foreigner Minister Arthur. The
main purpose of the telegram was to make Mexico declare
war on the United States of America. In the telegram,
Zimmermann instructed the ambassador to offer financial aid
to Mexico if they agreed to enter any U.S-German conflict as
a German ally. If they succeeded in the conflict Germany
also promised to restore to Mexico the lost territories
of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. The Zimmerman
telegram clearly had helped draw the United States into the
war and thus changed the course of history.
