THE CRAZE FOR ACCURACY

Extracts from Mr.Ar.Raichurs articles

ARTICLE ,appearing in K.P. & Astrology,1977 Annual.
When I started learning the famous K.P. System, one had to do all the calculations of the
Planets,House cusps etc., using the Ephemeris and the Table of Houses, give the figures in degrees
& minutes only. One had to interpolate figures for intermediate latitudes ans sidereal times
proportionallyetc. Many of us used to calculate these intermediate figures correct to the
seconds, and feel that we have achieved a better result
With the coming of the Computer age, this craze went further,Planetary positions being
given upto seconds, one has the feeling that such horoscopes are more accurate than the previous
ones.I have also been bitten by this bug,and my latest programmes for casting horoscopes,do give
all these figures upto seconds.
One question arising is,whether the greater accuracy now achievable, really affects
predictions.? In my experience, it does not, except inborderline casesI came to realize this
when I was comparing old horoscopes cast by me,with the same horoscope positions and the
cusps showed some difference,in almost all cases, the important RASI LORD,STAR LORD,SUB
LORD showed no difference at all. Even the SUB SUB LORD did not change in most
cases. We base our predictions on the basis of the STAR LORD and the SUB LORD.As long
as these do not change the predictions are the same.
In one case, the horoscope of my Son,I found that with the accurate programme,a
planet was placed in the 5th house. It was just 40 seconds behind the 6th cusp. In practice,it was
observed that this planet gave the results of the 6 th,rather than the 5th. On checking,I found that
the the lords of the 6th cusp, including the sub sub lord were the same as the planet(sic).
So,in such a case, the planet, for all purposes of predictions had to be considered as in the 6th.
Thus,a craze for greater accuracy, and a blind belief that the horoscope is more accurate can lead
to grave errors
When I studied this further,I find that the smallest Dasa of the Sun (6 years),the
smallest Sub and the sub-sub extends over 2 seconds only..So,unless one is on the borderline,an
error of 1 minute, will not change even the smallest sub-sub lord
The Dasa Periods of a person are determined by the position of the MOON.
Here also,I foundthat the difference my older horoscopes and the latest oneswas 1 or amaximum
of 3 daysdepending upon the starting dasa...In practical life, this difference of 1 or 2 days does not
really matter
In conclusion,I would recommend, that one should do accurate calculations with
the best available means, but one should not boast or claim that such calculations help to give
more accurate predictions
