Ebola fever is an infectious and fatal disease marked by fever and internal
bleeding, spread through bodily fluids. Ebola was named after a river in the
Democratic Republic of Congo in 1976. The first known outbreak of ebola
was identified in August of 1976. 318 cases of ebola were identified and as a
result, 280 deaths. Other major outbreaks occurred in Uganda, Gabon, Ivory
Coast, and South Africa which resulted in 1,716 cases reported. Symptoms of
ebola appear from 2- 21 days after infection. Symptoms include: high fever,
headaches, muscle and abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization
(WHO) is taking steps to respond to the rapidly changing situation in Africa.
The CDC activated its emergency operation center to help coordinate and
control activities with partners. Hundreds of CDC staff members have
provided logistics, staffing, communication, analytics, management, and
other support functions for the response. The CDC and WHO are educating
hospital staff to prevent any possible staff members from being infected. The
United Nations (UN) will deploy a new emergency health mission to combat
Ebola. Anthony Banboury, the head of this mission, began a tour of the three
hardest hit nations in the liberian capitol. He stated The only way we will
end this crisis is if we end every single case of Ebola so there is no risk of
transmission to anyone.
In the country of Ukraine, there are no identified cases of Ebola, however,
we are taking precautions to prevent the virus from entering the country. In
hospitals, staff members will wear protective clothing to prevent themselves
from contracting the disease. In airports we will tighten security and shut
down air travel to and from Africa. Also we will be measuring body
temperatures thermally to identify any unhealthy citizens trying to get in.
Also,we will shut down some trading between the Ukraine and Africa.
To prevent the spread of Ebola, countries should minimize traveling to
Africa. More security will be deployed in airports and borders to prevent any
cases from entrance. Most importantly, the Ukaine will try to create a
vaccine that can cure patients. Also, Ukraine will advise our citizens to wash

their hands if possible. With these procedures followed, it can help stop the
Ebola outbreak.
