1. How important is the personas physical location to her sense of belonging?
The personas location is seen to be central to her sense of belonging evident in
the asyndeton accumulative list chronicling her brothers wishes to return back
to the city, the street, the house, the vacant rooms, thus showing that the
persona sees her local environment as central to establishing a sense of
belonging.
2. What is her attitude towards the importance of belonging and how is this
conveyed?
The persona sees belonging as a vital part of the transition from childhood to the
teenage years. She supports this notion by the use of short truncated sentences:
All childhood is an emigration Slow are slow and I want our own country
depicts her experience of moving and growing up without a set home. Thus
portraying her transition from childhood to adulthood as nomadic and without a
sense of belonging to place. Her yearning for a sense of belonging is indicative
of her positive attitude towards achieving a sense of belonging and thus
addressing the importance of belonging to the responder.
3. What does the advertisement suggest about the relationship between
exclusion and belonging?

you dont belong there says that due to ones lack of belonging, the individual will
experience some exclusion.
