artist? I dont fully believe that you are inspired to become a full time artist. You are inspired to make music but then you start to think yeah, you know what people might like this so in my eyes its less an inspiration and more of a realisation. 2. What Bands or Artists inspire your music? Im a huge fan of bands like You Me At Six, Panic! At the Disco, All Time Low, and Cage The Elephant but my style is most influenced by Frank Turner. He was originally the frontman of the punk band Million Dead but after they broke up he started to do solo acoustic stuff. Its just amazing how he has influences from punk within a more folky style. His albums are some of my all-time favourites and are well worth listen for those looking for an inspiration. 3. What do you believe are your biggest achievements so far while being an artist? My biggest achievement Im torn. I cant decide between my first gig, and conversing with Frank Turner. In regards to my gig it was the first time Id performed as a solo artist before and it quite nerve wracking. It was a small venue but bigger than I had experienced before. I was unsure of how people would respond but the reaction got from the crowed after my first song really spiked confidence in me and I carried on with the show with real ease. For talking with Frank, I managed to contact him a while back to ask about recording a cover of his song Rivers. I went to a gig of his in Manchester and his manager took me to see him after the show. It was such an amazing feeling having my musical inspiration personally take the time to talk to me. Its something you dont forget in a hurry. 4. What is it like playing gigs? Especially in places as large as the Manchester Academy? Like I mentioned before about my first performance, playing gigs is always scary, especially for a solo artist. You get yourself worked up about all the things that could go wrong. Of course, once you get up there and get into it everything is fine and you start to enjoy yourself so much more. And as for
the Academy, that is something that Ill never forget, its
always nice getting to play in your home town. 5. What do you study at College? - I have a very un-rock and roll timetable at college. I study Maths, Physics, English Language and Media studies. This has nothing musical in it but you always need a back-up plan! Usually in my free time I try to escape away to a spare music room or the studio to practise, but to be honest, you don't need a qualification to be a musician. All you need is skill, talent and passion. 6. How did you manage to balance out work and College life as well as performing? - Simple answer? I don't! I could ******** you about careful planning and hard study but truth be told I do none of that. Gig comes up. I play gigs. Homework waits. It's not a very model system but Im not a model student. 7. To you personally, what do you feel are the best aspects about being a solo artist? - The thing about solo music is you have sole creative control. There is nobody questioning your work or trying to change it and it makes the music yours. You are purely free to create whatever you want with no complications of making sure everyone is happy with what you as a collective are producing. However, thats kind of a bad thing too. Sometimes its good to have that 3rd party critiquing you. It pushes your creativity and drives you to be a better musician or lyricist because after all, the goal is to create music that you and others want to hear. 8. Have you ever wanted to collaborate with other artists or form a band? Not a lot of people know it but I do feature in a band on the side. We called ourselves Outnumbered because there are six of us. We are an eclectic bunch. Our guitarists and drummer are all into indie rock, one of our vocalists is into queen and musicals and we have a classically trained pianist! Then there's me sharing the vocals and occasionally on bass playing poppunk riffs. Oddly enough, somehow it works. Yes it can be stressful but we all fit together and I love playing with them! 9. What are your dream venues that you would like to play? - Dream venue goes to the Albert Hall. I know its a
classical venue but that's exactly why I want to play there!
It would be nice to challenge the convention and bring something new to the place. A few times when I was younger my family would take me there so Ive always had a liking to the place and a real want to perform there. 10. Are there any festivals that you would love to one day be able to headline? - I kinda wanna headline Kendal Calling. Its on the smaller side but it has amazing feel to it. Its a place where the likes of me could really blossom. From then I would have to say Reading and Leeds festival. I am an avid festival goer and when it comes to down to it RandL would be such an amazing experience for me and in my opinion would make my music career. 11. In 10 years time where do you think youll be as an aspiring artist? - Maybe... Who knows? I could be in a studio recording my next hit album, filming a short film or an unknown who has slipped into the background of pop culture. I don't like to dwell on things like that and rather take each hurdle as it comes.
