Senator Benson Calls on MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee
to Meet, Perform its Function (ST. PAUL) In light of the forthcoming MNsure audit by the Office of the Legislative Auditor, Senator Michelle Benson (R-Ham Lake) called Monday for the MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee to convene, elect chairs, and begin holding regular meetings. Sen. Benson sent a letter to members of the MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee urging the committee to perform its legislative function of oversight and implementation of MNsure operations. With the new Republican majority in the Minnesota House of Representatives, the makeup of the MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee has changed. As such, Sen. Benson called on the committee to respect the new membership by calling regular meetings. The MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee has been given the authority, per state statute, of MNsure oversight, and we need to take it seriously, said Sen. Benson. By meeting regularly, we will be able to provide the intended oversight and will be better able to advise our colleagues on necessary changes to MNsure. The release of the Office of the Legislative Auditor report is an opportunity to re-evaluate and set a path forward for the future of MNsure. I believe we owe it to the citizens of Minnesota to fulfill our obligation of oversight of organizations as large and as costly as MNsure. The legislative auditor will release his report on MNsure next week and I am looking forward to the Committee examining and addressing the findings, Sen. Benson continued. ###
