February 2015

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Commencing in week six of term one is our Gifted and Talented/Student Interest Module
programme.
This programme will take place in Blocks 4 and 5 on a Friday in terms one, two and three.
For 2015, we have modified the structure and organisation of our school day to accommodate
this exciting programme.
Previously our programme did not allow for all students to be involved in a Gifted and Talented
or Student Interest Module programme. However this year we are excited to announce that
all students will be involved in two different programmes that take place in the last two blocks
of a Friday.
How students are selected for G&T/SIM programmes
1. Acceptance into several of our 60+ programmes will be made by the students
successful audition, trial or submitted work (For example Glee, Orchestra, Accelerate
Writing, Sports Academy etc).
2. Some students may be placed into a specific programme if they have an identified
need in a particular curriculum area. This will be decided based on school-wide testing.
3. For the remaining programmes; all students in the school will complete an application
form outlining their top five choices for each block. They will be able to further list their
relevant skills or experience they have/have had.
We will do our best to ensure students are able to be involved in one of the programmes of
their choice. We do however foresee situations where this will not be possible due to the
popularity of some programmes over others and we thank you in advance for your
understanding with this.
All the programmes have their own interesting dynamics and elements and we believe all
children will greatly benefit from the wide variety on offer.
Where to from here?

A list of all Gifted and Talented groups and Student Interest Modules is attached to this
form. A small number of programmes will incur a cost. Please check our website for
details.
Encourage your child to be aware of due dates, meeting times, and upcoming trials,
auditions etc if they want to be involved in any programmes explained under point one
above.

We look forward to our GnT/SIM programme getting underway in Week six.

Kind Regards,

Emma McKeown
