Friction Loss in Pipes of Different Materials

The apparatus is used to determine and compare the head loss due to
friction (friction loss) for piping of different materials when an
incompressible fluid flows through it.
Pipes offer friction to the flow of fluid which results in the form of head loss
due to expenditure of energy to overcome the friction.
Manometric Tubes
The friction offered depends on factors such as internal smoothness and
material of pipe used.
An advantage of this knowledge is that we can select the piping from a
range of materials according to our specific needs.
A disadvantage of the apparatus used, is its high yield of inaccuracy due to
manual work.
