Also explain the two transistor analogy of SCR. ‘Compare the different configurations of transistor in amplifier mode of operation, Comment which configuration is best. OR Explain the working of Zener diode as a voltage regulator. Draw and explain the working of UJT as a Relaxation Oscillator with the help of neat waveforms and circuit diagram, What is a “power supply"? Enumerate and explain the various stages of power supply with the help of neat diagram. Explain the operation of Shunt voltage regulator with necessary circuit diagram. OR What is a “filter"? Enumerate the applications of DC motor. Neatly sketch and explain characteristics of a DC series motor. Explain the speed control methods for DC shunt motor. OR Draw and explain the operation of 3-point starter. What modifications are incorporated in 4-point starter compare to 3 point starter. A DC shunt machine connected to 250V supply has an armature resistance of 0.12 ohms and field winding resistance is 100 ohms. Find the ratio of speed as generator to speed as motor if the line current in each case being 80A. Explain the principle of operation of polyphase induction motor with neat diagram. A 3-phase 4 pole 50Hz induction motor has slip ring rotor. The rotor winding is star connected with 0.29 of resistance per phase and standstill reactance of 19 per phase. Its rotor induced emf at standstill between the slip rings is 120V, when stator is excited by rated voltage. Its full load speed is 1440 rpm. Find the rotor current and rotor power factor (i) at start and (ii) on full load condition. OR A 25 kW, 4 pole, 3-phase, 50Hz induction motor is running at 1410 rpm, supplying full load. The mechanical losses are 850W and stator losses are 1.7 times rotor Cu. Losses on full load. Calculate, (i gross mechanical power developed (i) the value of rotor resistance per phase if rotor current on full load per phase is 654 (iii) rotor Cu. loss (iv) the full load efficiency. Why electric drives are used in industrial applications? Explain the various components of electric drive with the help of block diagram, Classify the various types of furnaces. Explain the construction of induction type furnace. A 25 kW, 230 V, Single Phase resistance oven employs nickel- chrome wire for its heating elements. If the wire temperature is not to exceed 1250°C and the temperature of the charge is to be 650°C, calculate the diameter and length of the wire.
