Roll / Supervisor's i Exam No. with date ‘Time: 3 Hours _ Instructions: _1. Attempt all que Nirma University Institute of Technology ‘Semester End Examination (IR/RPR), May - 2013 B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, Semester-IV 2EE226 Electrical Technology ns. 2, Figures to right indicate full marks. 3. Section wise separate answer book to be used. 4. Draw neat sketches whenever necessary. ‘SECTION I Max. Marks: 100 QL. (A) Derive the relation for torque and back emf of DC motor. Enumerate the [6] Q2. (B) (c) ic) @ e) 8) ) applications of DC motor. Neatly sketch and explain characteristics of DC series motor. A de series motor drives a load the torque of which is proportional to square of speed. The motor current is 20A when speed is 500 rpm. Calculate speed and current when motor field winding is shunted by resistance of same values as field winding resistance. Neglect all motor losses and assume that magnetic circuit is unsaturated. oR A 3 - phase induction motor having a 6 - pole, star connected stator winding runs ‘on 240 V, 50 Hz supply. The rotor resistance and stand-still reactance are 0.12 Q and 0.85 Q per phase respectively. The ratio of stator to rotor turns is 1.8 and full load slip is 4 %, Calculate the developed torque at full load, maximum torque and speed of the motor at maximum torque. Mention the methods of speed control for an induction motor and explain any one method with relevant diagram and characteristics. Explain the operation of permanent magnet stepper motor with rotor having two poles, Show the switching sequence for the same, OR Explain the working principle of stepper motor. Also classify the various types of stepper motor. A DC shunt machine is used in high performance operation. ‘The field constant of the motor (cb) is 1.8 V-sec, the armature resistance is 1 Q and the total moment of inertia of the entire drive system is 3 Nm-sec?. The load connected to motor is as constant torque of 20 Nm. The motor operates at a steady state speed when the terminal voltage is at 200 V. To increase the motor speed, the terminal voltage increases to 300 V, while the field remains constant, Calculate the time constant {:) and time required to change the motor speed.
