I See Fire

The song I am writing about is I see Fire from Ed Sheeran. I have chosen this song
because it is the credit song of one of my favourite movie.

Preparation
Ed Sheeran is an English singer-songwriter. His first big hit was the A-Team. He has
different music genres which are: pop, R&B, folk and acoustic.
The genre of I See Fire is folk which means it has the style or flavour of folk art.
The song was written for the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as credit
song.

First Impression
When I first heard this song, these words and pictures came to my mind:
Sad because the first time I heard the music was when I was in the cinema,
the movie had just finished and I realised I had to wait an another year for the
sequel. I also felt sad because the song has a slow tempo, rhythm and it had a
sad dynamics.
Fire because the song is about fire.
Relaxing because of the slow pace and the calm voice.
Hobbit because the song is used in The Hobbit: The desolation of Smaug.
Entertaining because there is a story in the lyrics.

Description
When I listen to the song I hear:
- A guitar, this is the main instrument in the song.
- A the end of the song becomes his voice and guitar become louder
- Only one singer
- Cello
- Piano
- Bass
- The main singer is also used as backing vocal
- Changing beat

Analysis
Different elements in the song:

The musician uses repetition which is the refrain.

The musician creates variety by changing the volume of his guitar and voice
and he creates variety by changing the lyrics this is the couplet. He also uses
different kinds of instruments
He builds up tension by singing louder towards the end of the song
There isnt really a timbre between instruments it all sounds like a guitar
The musician grabs your attention by sudden uithalen (couldnt find the
translation)

Interpretation
This song gives me a sad and happy feeling because it is used as credit-song in my
favourite movie, whenever I hear this song I think about the Hobbit. On the one hand
side it makes me happy because it remembers me of the hobbit on the other side it
makes me sad because the Hobbit trilogy is finished and there is never going to be a
new one. The song is relaxing because it is a calm song. The lyrics remind me of the
story of the Hobbit.
My impression has changed because it has been a year since the movie was made,
so when I hear this song I dont feel sad because it has been a long time.
