James Moriarty
Professor James Moriarty is the archenemy of Sherlock Holmes, the brilliant detective.
He is a criminal mastermind who was born from a wealthy family and received excellent
education. When he was twenty-one years old he wrote a thesis about the binomial theorem that
won him the mathematical chair at a small university. Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty shared
mutual respect for each others' unparallel intellect. However Moriarty is completely willing to
kill Holmes as long as he continues to interfere with his criminal activities. As a leader of the
underground he has a ruthless temper and is very independent. In many scenes he would pursue
Holmes by himself, while Holmes would always take Watson as a partner of justice. Though
Moriarty does have a confident henchman, Colonel Moran.
Moriarty have a powerful airgun purchased from a blind German mechanic; it was also
used by his henchman Colonel Moran. It had similar features as a cane and was capable of firing
bullets at long range while making little noise. It is an excellent weapon to snipe and assassinate
targets from afar. Moriarty had staged many crimes to look like accidents. As stated he is a crime
lord that protects all of the criminals of England in exchange for their obedience and apart of the
profits.
James Moriarty's beginning and end is in "The Adventure of the Final Problem," where
he attempted to escape from Holmes in Europe. Their struggle ends on the top of the
Reichenbach Falls, where both persons apparently fall to their deaths while in combat. It is later
revealed in "The empty House" that Holmes had only faked his death to make Moriarty's
remaining henchmen to expose themselves.
