Predeal Customs

The Building of the Customs Office in Predeal was founded in 1852 when it
was moved from Breaza, a nearby town. The building is located on the corner of the
National Road 1 and the former Mihai Viteazu Street, now called 3 Brazi Street, this
street is located where the former border was placed, and the buildings closer to the
city of Brasov,(beyond the border) were named by the locals the Hungarian
Predeal.
The building functioned as a customs building until the World War I, and we
have no information about it until 1921 when a battalion of Mountain Rangers from
Brasov was stationed in Predeal. The soldiers took the building for their own. During
that time the building served as the mess for the officers or as a ball room for the
soldiers and their wives for different occasions.
After the Second World War, the building was used as a ball room for some
years, but eventually it was placed in the official national patrimony of tourism.
Sadly , it seems that today , the building belongs to no one, the building being in a
deplorable state, ignored, and left to decay.
The beautiful Predeal Customs building is considered one of Predeals
historical buildings, with a beautiful Greek Style architecture. Sadly the city hall has
little to no information on it, ignoring it, and leaving it at the hands of time.
