Day 6 - Special Quadrilaterals
Day 6 - Special Quadrilaterals
Other Quadrilaterals
Objective
To define and classify special types of parallelograms
To use properties of diagonals of rhombuses and rectangles.
Warm-up
What would you call the following?
1.
2.
Square
3.
Rectangle
Rhombus
Key Definitions
A rhombus is a parallelogram with four
congruent sides
A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right
angles
A square is a parallelogram with four congruent
sides and four right angles.
Important Theorems
(Properties of rhombus)
Important Theorems
(Properties of Rectangles)
Note
All properties of parallelograms apply to a
rhombus and rectangle.
Since a square is a rhombus AND a rectangle,
all properties of a parallelogram, rhombus, and
rectangle are also properties of a square.
ALL of the converses are true:
Ex. If the diagonals of a parallelogram are
perpendicular, then the parallelogram is a rhombus.
Relationships
Examples
Identify the parallelogram.
Rhombus, 4 congruent sides
Square, 4 rt angles
and 4 congruent
sides
180-90-50=40
Examples
Use algebra.
JKLM is a rectangle. If JL = 4x 12 and MK = x, what is the value of x? What is
the length of each diagonal?
J
Mk = 4 = JL
