MINI DESIGN PROJECT:

WATER FILTRATION

GOAL

The goal of this project is to make a water filtration

system
The turbidity of the final water test must be less
than 10

RESEARCH

We found that Charcoal and sand made a great combination to

cleanse the water

The small particles in the two materials would grab floating

particles in the water
We got ideas form existing solutions such as sediment filters

BRAINSTORMING & BILL OF

MATERIALS
We used a decision matrix to
narrow down the original five ideas
we had
The Idea we decided to use
required the following materials:
1. Bottle
2. Sand
3. Charcoal
4. T-Shirt
5. Coffee Filters

FABRICATION

We created the original design & soon found out

that the filtration process was not quite adequate
In the shop we made a quick decision as a team to
remove the sand and charcoal form the design
layout
We found a huge difference in clarity based solely
on vison from the change

FINAL DESIGN

The final design included a

bottle with a handle,
approximately 65 coffee
filters, and two layers of tshirts and electrical tape
We achieved the goal of a
turbidity less than 10
