Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: Undertaking an elective in Serbia through the AMSA Exchange Program
I would love to travel to Serbia to complete an elective through the AMSA
Exchange Program. I was born in Serbia but after moving to Australia, I attended
once-weekly Serbian school classes in Melbourne. I speak fluent Serbian and I
read/write in both the Cyrillic and Latin scripts. I have travelled to Serbia on several
occasions so I am confident in making my way around cities such as Belgrade and
Novi Sad.
I understand that challenges to study outside of Australia do exist. For
example, I realise that I will be far away from home, family and friends. However, I
do not believe that this will pose an issue for me as I have many relatives in Serbia
that I can call on if need be. Furthermore, I believe that the experience of an
overseas elective would be very rewarding in terms of the education that I stand to
gain from working in a new environment. I also feel that the economic differences
between Serbia and Australia will help me gain a broader appreciation for issues
underlying the importance of global health advocacy.
I trust you will consider my application for this program and believe that it
will greatly assist me in my path to becoming the best doctor I can be.
