RE: KARK News Story on allegations of sexual harassment against
Maumelle elected official
The allegations against City Clerk / Treasurer Joshua Clausen are
concerning. While the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is reviewing the complaints, I am reluctant to call for definitive action. I am hopeful a resolution is possible that allows the city to move forward in a manner that will allow City Hall to focus on the peoples business and provide for a positive work environment. I first became aware of this incident approximately one month ago. I was disappointed and concerned about the individuals involved in this matter. The people of Maumelle deserve a city government that is focused on issues outside of City Hall. This is an unwanted scandal that hopefully will conclude in a manner that allows us to move forward in a workable fashion. Mayor Watson and I have visited on this subject, and I have also spoken with Clerk Clausen. Consistent with my sworn duties to serve the City of Maumelle, I have made recommendations and offered advice to City Hall regarding this matter and how complaints have been handled. Again, until completion of the EEOC investigation, the facts of the case are still under examination. I would encourage everyone at this point to feel free to communicate with your elected officials one-on-one about your concerns; however, please refrain from public comments or assumptions about the individuals involved.
Sincerely,
Preston Lewis Alderman Ward 3 Maumelle City Council
