AppCable is Appalachian State
Universities television station led
by general manager Michael Fields.
Fields has four decades of experience in the television industry and
saw a great opportunity to bring
great entertainment to the high
country while involve Appalachian
students. With the help of Department of Communications professor Roger Gonce, Fields set out
to create a television station that
encompassed the campus as well
as Western North Carolina.

The Academics
The Academics is a studio-based
television program produced by
Appalachian State Universitys highdefinition television station, AppCable, housed on the third floor of the
George G. Beasley Media Complex
in downtown Boone, N.C. The Academics is a half hour original program that will discuss the weekss
current events. Current events,
ranging from international, national,
state and local perspectives, will be
discussed from an academic
viewpoint.

Dr. James F. Barnes, who is a professor of Government and Justice Studies and the universitys
ombudsman hosts the show The
Academics. Dr. Barnes has had
several varied international and
domestic experiences including
serving in Paris for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
as a political officer, teaching in the
French-speaking nation of Gabon as
a lecturer. He will lead three panelists in the program that will air at 7
p.m. on Friday evenings beginning
in the summer of 2015.

Dr. Nancy S. Love


is a Detroit native
and animal lover

Michael Wade is
an advocate and
leader in susutainability. He has
served as a consultant for low-energy housing in
Lafayette, Louisiana
since 1977.

Leigh Dunston is
an international
hiker and former
Florida trial
lawyer prior to
teaching at
Appalachian

The Academics will be filmed in


Studio B in the George G. Beasley
Media Complex, located in historic
downtown Boone.

Panelists for the program include


Dr. Leigh E. Dunston, professor of
Finance, Banking and Insurance; Dr.
Nancy S. Love, professor of Government and Justice Studies; and
Dr. Michael G. Wade, professor of
History.

Dr. Sue Edwards


is a native
australian and
biology guru.
