NAME
The llamas scientific name is lama glama
which means bleary eyed in Italian

LLAMAS DINNER

Since llamas are herbivores they only eat vegetation like forbs,
lichens, tree foliage, native shrubs, and young tender shoots.
Llamas eat in a grinding motion to get the food small enough
to swallow. Llamas have three stomachs to hold all of the
food

Llamas

have fighting teeth they also kick. Thanks to

this the llamas can serve their purpose as guard
animal to protect other livestock.

LLAMAS PURPOSE
Llamas

are guard animals. That means that they are

sometimes bought by people to protect their
animals. These animals may include sheep, goats,
and more. They even sometimes protect their
cousin the alpaca. They protect them from animals
such as wild dogs, wolves, coyotes, and foxes.

LLAMAS RELATIVES
The llamas closest relatives are the alpaca
the vicuna and the guanaco.

Llamas adapt to their environment by having
strong pads on their feet and thick wooly fur.

Llamas

are not endangered or extinct, though they

could, over time become either if their food or
water supply is cut short.

live in the South American mountains which

are full of trees and grasses for the llamas to eat.

PARENTS ROLE
The

main role of the baby llamas parents is to take

care of and protect the baby llama from the llamas
predators.

LLAMAS OTHER NAMES

A baby llama is called a cria. A male llama is called a male

and they call female a female. A group of llamas is called a
herd.

FUN FACTS
To gain dominance llamas spit at each other and
they chest butt. Llamas have walked the earth for
nearly 40 million years. The llamas relative the
vicuna can only be owned by Persian royalty or else
it is considered illegal.
