NoNo liked to play near the shore with his best friend, Lottie Otter. They would splash and dive in the water and then lie ona rock until the warm sun dried them off. From their rock they could see NoNo’s father and the other big seals swimming. NoNo's Uncle Seal was the fastest and strongest swimmer of them all. More than anything, NoNo wanted to grow up and swim just as fast as his Uncle Seal. ‘One day Uncle Seal told NoNo, “It’s time you earned to swim, and 1am going to teach you. After all, 'm your special friend. Then one day you will be the very best swimmer on the island.” NoNo had never been happier in his life. He jumped onto Uncle Seal’s back and out they went into the deep water. Uncle Seal showed NoNo how to use his flippers. Then Uncle Seal let go of NoNo. NoNo paddled with all his might and at last he felt himself gliding through the water. All by himself! NoNo swam past Wise Whale. “Look at you, NoNo!” she exclaimed. "What a good swimmer you are!” “Thank you,” said NoNo. "My Uncle Seal taught me. He's the best uncle in the world.” “The next day NoNo's parents told him they were going fishing for a few days. "And while we're gone, Uncle Seal will come to stay with you," NoNo's mother told him. ““That's great!” said NoNo, What fun he and Uncle Seal were going to have. Uncle Seal arrived early the next morning. And as soon as Mama and Papa Seal were gone, NoNo and Uncle Seal went swimming. Uncle Seal showed NoNo how to do back flips and how to swim so fast that NoNo felt like a rocket shooting through water. ‘That night, when NoNo curled up in his shelter on the rock, Uncle Seal came to say good night. He lay down beside NoNo and gave hima hug. “uncle Seal!" cried NoNo. “You're hugging me too hard.” But Uncle Seal did not stop hugging NoNo, and he began to touch him in funny places—in private places where NoNo did not want to be touched NoNo was so scared he could say nothing. ‘We're special friends, aren't we?” said Uncle Seal. “And this is a special secret between us, You must not tell anyone. Anyone," repeated Uncle Seal, and then he went away. NoNo hardly closed his eyes that night. The next morning he went off by himself and sang a sad song.
