Freak the Mighty

1. Kevin is obsessed with vocabulary and using his dictionary. If you look in the back of your book,
there is a dictionary of words that Freak uses often. In todays world, kids use a lot of vocabulary
that was not even thought of 15 years agothis is called SLANG. Create a dictionary page with
30 slang words (school appropriate). Put some time into this, you must have the part of
speech, pronunciation, and complete definition. All entries must be neatly written or
typed.
Ex. LOL- (el-oh-el) verb. stands for laugh out loud, used when something funny is said.
2. Freak sometimes makes things up as the boys are going on their quest. An ordinary sidewalk
may become a dangerous bridge. (page 48) Write a short story in which a sidewalk changes into
something else. What adventures does it lead to? Tell all about it and then on a separate sheet of
computer paper create a drawing of that sidewalk.
3. Freak the Mighty retrieves an ID card (or drivers license) from a purse in a storm drain. Using a
picture of a person cut out from a magazine create an ID card of a person and make up the
information about them. Then, on a separate sheet of paper, write a one-page, typed or nicely
written creative story about that person.
