netball and athletics,

which were predominantly
new experiences for the
participants. After the
sporting activities a BBQ
was enjoyed, a great way
to bring in the Australia
Day weekend!
The Clayton Aquatic and
Health Club was host to
an innovative program
late last year which saw 12

young people from a range

of cultural backgrounds
gain valuable swimming
experience and learn
essential water safety
techniques. The course
was held after school over
three consecutive days,
and was capped off with
a beach trip facilitated by
Surf Life Saving Victoria.

Community Safety Forums

All sports clubs in Monash are invited to attend a sporting club
community safety forum to learn about safety issues facing local
clubs and strategies to improve safety for club members. These interactive sessions are a follow-up to the community safety and Australian Drug Foundation seminar held in November 2014. James Egan,
Leading Senior Constable & Monash Community Crime Prevention
Officer with Oakleigh Police, will facilitate these sessions and discuss
important safety issues relating to local clubs and sporting reserves.
This project has been funded as part of the Victorian Governments
Community Crime Prevention Program.
What dates are these sessions for your club?

Message from
Mayor Paul Klisaris
Were heading into the business end of
our summer sporting season and I wish all
teams preparing for finals the best of luck.
Were continuing to support our local
sporting clubs by upgrading facilities with a
number of exciting projects underway.
Work is progressing well on our synthetic
sporting pitch at Jack Edwards Reserve in
Oakleigh and were about to start work on
a new sports pavilion in Ashwood Reserve.
Well also be installing new sports lighting
at Central Reserve North (Glen Waverley),
Jingella Reserve (Ashwood) and the Tally
Ho Tennis Club (Mount Waverley).
Keep an eye out for our campaign to
reduce crime at sporting clubs including
theft from cars of tools, phones and iPads.
Were working with local clubs on our
Monash Preventing Crime & Promoting
Safe and Secure Sporting Clubs initiative
to help clubs develop strategies to prevent
crime and increase safety.
Well be holding some information sessions
with clubs next month and Id encourage
you to take part and learn how to best
protect your property when youre at
training or using a sporting facility.
Please contact me if you would like to talk
about any issue in our community.

Sports Ground Maintenance

The surface at Larpent Reserve is currently undergoing a reconstruction. This project will improve drainage and playability of
the surface, especially leading into the wet winter months. With
cricket heading into the pointy end of the season, works are being
carried out by the sportsground maintenance crew to produce
the best possible conditions for finals, which involves outfield
maintenance and table preparation for turf wicket grounds.
Planning has also commenced for the over-sowing of 18 sports
fields for the seasonal transition period, so the sustainability of
grounds can be maintained for winter sport. With baseball finals
coming up at Napier Reserve, a reconstruction of the pitching
mound at diamond 1 has taken place.

Park Maintenance
The new garden bed at Reg
Harris Reserve has improved
the amenity of the reserve,
whilst also addressing a
problematic wet area.
Progress Park has also
recently had a new garden
bed assembled, which has
involved brand new plants
and mulching at the park.
