Objective: The student will successfully display the ability

to use scale in order to create a cardstock mini unit
set. These unit sets will be used throughout the year in the
area of design.
Assignments: You are going to be constructing your very
own cardstock unit set. Each piece must be built using the
scale =1. This means that for every foot of the unit set,
you are going to be using on the cardstock. In order to
construct your very own cardstock unit set, you will be using
sheets of cardstock, scotch tape, rulers, pencils, and
scissors. The tricky part is that you are only going to receive
four (4) sheets of cardstock. This does not allow much room
for mistakes; therefore, some advanced planning is required.
It might be best to draw out your pieces before you cut
them. (Measure twice, cut once!) In theory, you should only
need three (3) sheets of cardstock; however, I am going to
offer you one extra for mistakes. Once you have completed,
you will have your very own mini unit set.

3 fold flats use 2-16x8 flats on the outsides and 1-3x8 flat in the
middle.
The ramp rises from 0 to 1 in height.

Assignment #1: (Daily Grade)

Each day that you are given to construct your unit set will be
monitored. A grade will be given determining the amount of
work that you do in class. The shown rubric will be used to
determine the grade.

Assignment #2: (Daily Grade)

You will be required to make a paper pattern that resembles
the diagramed unit set pieces on the supplement. I will offer
you a pattern of the 4x8x1 platform and you must use the

same concept to draw a 4x4x1 platform. I will offer you a

pattern of the 2 fold flat and you must use the same concept
to draw a 3 fold flat. I will offer you a pattern of the 2 step
unit and you must use the same concept to draw a 4 step
unit. I will offer you a pattern of the 6 pylon and you must
use the same concept to draw a 4 pylon. This would
represent the easiest way to build your mini unit set.
These patterns and their concepts should also be used to
build your entire mini unit set. Remember to draw your
patterns with the =1 scale and use the Extra Info
section located at the bottom of page one. This will be
turned in on the attached worksheet.

Assignment #3: (Test Grade)
You are to use the allowed supplies and your four (4) sheets
of cardstock to construct the mini unit set pieces. Make
sure that your measurements are accurate. REMEMBER:
=1. The neatness of the assembly will be taken into
consideration as well. In addition, the pieces should be
strong enough to hold simple objects and other set pieces.
Each set piece will count 3.5 points. With the above said,
these pieces will each be graded on the following three
areas: Accuracy, Neatness, and Stability.

You may want to bring a shoe box to store your pieces.

This will prevent them from being crushed and/or
misplaced. Shoe boxes will be allowed to be stored in
the theatre areas.
