Criteria for Employee of the Month

Effective 9-1-06
The following criteria will be used in selecting an Employee of the Month (EOM):
1.

Employee must have worked a minimum of two (2) years in a regular capacity
for the Borough and is not currently in probationary status at time of
nomination.

2.

Employees can receive the employee of the month recognition more than
once; however, there must be a break of a minimum of five (5) years between
awards.

3.

Employee must demonstrate initiative.

4.

Employee must demonstrate a high quality of work.

5.

Employee must demonstrate the ability to work as a team member.

6.

Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities.

7.

Employee contributes to a positive attitude in the workplace.

Information on nominees will be solicited from:


1.

The nomination form

2.

The Nominator

3.

Committee knowledge of nominee

4.

HRs knowledge of any performance issues

5.

Nominees immediate supervisor and/or director

Process:
1.

Forms and criteria on the Employee of the Month program will be posted on
the HR web site.

2.

Nominations are accepted at any time. Submit completed forms to the


Personnel Assistant in Human Resources. Forms must be signed by the
nominator.

3.

The Employee of the Month Committee is appointed by the Human Resources


Director and is made up of past EOM recipients.

4.

The Employee of the Month Committee meets on a monthly basis to review


all nominations and make a selection for the following months EOM. If
necessary follow-up may be conducted via email.

5.

The Human Resources Department works with the Mayors office, and the
appropriate Department Director to complete the write up and proclamation.

6.

The Human Resources Department coordinates a time for the Mayor, the
department and the EOM Committee to meet with the employee to announce
them as EOM. Employees receive:
a. A letter from the Mayor announcing them as EOM
b. 1 full day of Administrative Leave (pro-rated to FTE)
c. Gift Certificate for $50.00
d. Employee of the Month pin
e. Name and month of award engraved on plaque which is displayed in the
1st floor lobby of the BAC.

7.

The employee is asked to attend the next regular scheduled Assembly Meeting
to be presented with the proclamation. The EOM is highlighted in the
Fairbanks Daily News Miner and is posted on the Boroughs HR web page.
