Agriculture is an activity which includes agricultural crops food, forestry, fisheries,

livestock and horticulture. Indonesia is a country that has a lot of natural resources. So that,
Indonesia is known as agricultural country.
Indonesian potential in the agricultural sector is very good because it has a diverse
natural resources. Therefore, the government decided to develop agriculture sector. However
when development took place evidently some problems appeared, such as import of
agricultural products. Nowadays, most of people would prefer to bought product from other
countries than local product because of its quality. The quality of Indonesian product is lower
than the other countries. It happened because Indoneasia still use a traditional technology.
Beside that postharvest handling agricultural product needs to be improved. Whereas in this
globalization there are so many technology in agriculture which have been developed by
some european and asian countries. For example in Japan. The plants are grown with
hydroponics system in the building. Those plants are lighted with LED light as a replacement
sun.
Beside problem of technology and postharvest handling, the decrease of agricultural
land still happened. Increasing level of contruction building and other facilities are the cause
this problem occurs. So, production of agricultural commodities decreased. Other problem is
water deficiency. Consequently, many fields has drought.
Recognizing many problems in Indonesian agriculture, solutions is very necessary.
For examples, university encourages students and lectures to conduct the research about
agricultural technology. Hopefully, with a lot of research of technology that conducted, can
be useful for the agricultural sector in Indonesia, specially in postharvest technology. the
other solution is learning about the agricultural technology that has been applied in developed
countries. Indonesia can provide scholarship for local student to learn about that. Eventually,
those student will comeback to Indonesia then apply their knowledge in agricultural sector.
