SUBJECT: Mission Briefer and Final Approval Authority Exam
1. What references provide guidance on how the Mission Briefing and Final Approval
Authority programs are designed and how they are to operate?

Briefing officers must be a qualified and current pilot in command in the mission profile
as determined and designated by the commander.
6. If a Mission Briefing Officer is on a 30 Day Extension of his ATP, or is not RL1, may
he perform Briefing Officer duties?

7. Who may perform Final Approval Authority duties?
Commanders will select final mission approval authorities from the chain of command
based on their maturity, experience, and judgment and will establish a training and
certification program to ensure standardization and understanding of the mission
approval and risk management process.
8. Who may perform Final Approval Authority duties at a PAARNG AASF?
National Guard AASF chain of command accepts the risk and is the final approval
authority for missions under their supervision.
9. Who may perform Final Approval Authority duties at a PAARNG AASF for Moderate
Risk missions?
AASF Commander for Moderate risk missions.
10. Are separate Mission Briefing Officers and Final Approval Authorities always
required?
The briefing officer and final approval authority may be the same individual when that
person has the appropriate qualification and it is not practical to obtain separate
authorizations; e.g. during night AFTPs.
