Sexual Harassment is defined as an uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical behavior of a
sexual nature especially by a person in authority toward a subordinate (as an employee or
student). From reading the scenario the female officer was being sexual harassment by a male colleague, which the situation should have been reported to captain or the commander in charge (chain of command). The situation was overheard by another officer who is on probation as well as the victim. The officer who overheard the conversation stating that that if the victim dont get with him he will fail her. I would go to the commander in charge and explain to him/her all what Ive overheard even if I catch some flack from fellow officers, I would then climb the ladder of the chain of command from Chief to Internal Affairs and explain the situation. Yes I would have to deal with all the ostracization from my other colleagues, but my moral state of mind says Im ethically just in this situation. Sexual harassment can occur in any place of employment. When a victim suffers through this type of abuse, it can have a serious psychological and physiological effect on the victim (.caselaw4cops). With this being said, because of the possibilities of the females mental state not being focused on her job, this may be a case between life or death. Not only is sexual harassment wrong but unacceptable, it has no place in the work environment or any environment. So yes I will have no problem blowing the whistle regardless of the consequence.
