The subsequent World Conferences on Drowning Prevention were held in Danang, Vietnam in 2011 and in Potsdam, Germany in 2013. The World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2045 will be hosted by the Life Saving Society Malaysia (LSSM) and willbe held in Penang, Malaysia The Life Saving Society of Malaysia (LSSM) is @ non-profit ABOUT THE WCDP 2015 ‘The World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2015 will be held at the Equatorial Hotel and Convention Centre located at the Pear of the Orient, the slate of Penang in Malaysia from 4 - 6 November 2015. ‘The World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2018 is an, intemational conference convened by the Intemational Life Saving Federation in partnership with the World Health Organisation. This is a three (3) day conference that will provide international speakers, policy makers, government representative and contributors from all over the world a forum to express their views and expertise in drowning prevention, Itis the view of the lifesaving community that each death by drowning is preventable and avoidable and the experience from the intemational community is relevant and should be shared, The conference will feature the experiences of various communities worldwide in prevent- ing drowning in their own communities so that such experiences can be shared with others, In the case of Malaysia, with a population of 28 million, statistics show that we have had about 700 drowr deaths each year for about a decade. It is the Society's national organisation established in 1964 and is dedicated towards providing the knowiedge and skills needed to prevent and to save lives from drowning and emergencies related to cardiac arrest. ts principal activities have been to develop and promote awareness of water safety issues to all Malaysians, especially to children. The Sociely is a member of the ILS and closely affiliated to similar organisations in the Asia-Pacific and ASEAN region ‘The Society started in Malaysia in 1964 when the late Lord Mountbatten invited Dato Teoh Tek Lee, our first President, to start a society to train and instruct young Malaysians to swim and to undertake lfe saving activites.
