    Radiotransmitteramplifiersinmosttelecommunicationssystemsarerequiredtobe"linear",inthatthey
    mustaccuratelyreproducethesignalpresentattheirinput.Anamplifierthatcompressesitsinputorhasa
    nonlinearinput/outputrelationshipcausestheoutputsignaltosplatterontoadjacentradiofrequencies.This
    causesinterferenceonotherradiochannels.
    Thepredistortioncircuitinverselymodelstheamplifier'sgainandphasecharacteristicsand,when
    combinedwiththeamplifier,producesanoverallsystemthatismorelinearandreducestheamplifier's
    distortion.Inessence,"inversedistortion"isintroducedintotheinputoftheamplifier,therebycancelling
    anynonlinearitytheamplifiermighthave.
    Predistortionisacostsavingandpowerefficiencytechnique.Radiopoweramplifierstendtobecomemore
    nonlinearastheiroutputpowerincreasestowardstheirmaximumratedoutput.Predistortionisawaytoget
    moreusablepowerfromtheamplifier,withouthavingtobuildalarger,lessefficientandmoreexpensive
    amplifier.AnotherimportantconsiderationindesignofRFpoweramplifiersisthememoryeffector
    amplifiernonlineardynamics.[1]
    Predistortioncanbeimplementedinananalogaswellasdigitalmannerknownasdigitalpredistortion.[2]
