Program Overview
Mission
Motivate, empower and educate students about the importance of understanding their
personal power, achieving academically, actualizing their personal leadership, creating,
positive social change in their local community, and developing a career plan with post-
secondary education
Program Goals
+ Reengage students in academics and positive leadership while decreasing their
violent and disruptive behavior.
+ Engage students into their community through service-learning where they
demonstrate leadership by developing and creating social change strategies to
address the many challenges facing their communities,
+ Provide students with a meaningful connection with positive leaders who inspire
and motivate them to become successful in school and life.
* Provide students with meaningful experiences and education about career
development
* Prepare students to graduate on time from high school and pursue higher
education

Program Implementation
This weekly program provides mentoring, career coaching, connections to corporations,
college tours, cultural exposure to the arts, and academic motivation and tutoring both
before, during and after school. We specialize in engaging students in the Five C’s
CONFIDENCE: Students learn how to use personal power to embrace academic and
social success.
COLLEGE: Students attend at least one college tour a year. Every student is expected
to attend college.
CAREERS: Students participate in small career coaching groups and visit a major
corporation each year
CULTURE: Students participate in a variety of cultural experiences that include theatre,
art, and history.
COMMUNITY: Students demonstrate leadership skills through a community service-
learning project.
Core Curriculum
Weekly Sessions
A multicultural/ethnic group of female mentors from the community with a broad
range of knowledge, skills, and experiences are trained to facilitate weekly in-school
sessions with our students using our Girls in Action and Boys of Hope Curriculum™,
Service-Learning
Provides an opportunity for our students to develop a community-based service-
learning project authentic to their school and surrounding community.
Career Development and Transitioning to High School
Provides students with opportunities to participate in at least one college tour and in
career coaching groups led by female mentors. Engage girls in mentoring discussions
with Girl in Action alumni about preparing for transition to high school and life in
college.
Leadership Development
Provides multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate positive personal
leadership at school and in the community. Students will also attend at least one
cultural/arts event.
