The Canadian Critical Pedagogy Association and the

Canadian Association for the Study of Indigenous Education

invite you to attend a panel discussion

The ACDE Accord on Indigenous Education:

What progress have we made? What Challenges Lie Ahead?
co-sponsored by the
Association of Canadian Deans of Education and the
Canadian Society for the Study of Education
The panel emerges from conversations amongst teacher educators who believe that current and future teachers have an important responsibility in building the kinds of awareness, knowledge, and sense of responsiveness that our society needs. Facing colonialism
and colonization with clear eyes will help Canadians to build relationships of respect and
accountability.
Five years ago, the Association of Canadian Deans of Education (ACDE) ratified an Accord
on Indigenous Education (http://www.csse-scee.ca/acde/accords). At this historic juncture, with the delivery of the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final
Report to Parliament in June, 2015, leaders in Indigenous education are meeting to share
pedagogical challenges and strategies at a panel discussion taking place at the University
of Ottawa. The panel is being held in conjunction with the annual conference of the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE).

The panel will take place on:

Saturday, May 30th

2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Lamoureux Hall
145 Jean-Jacques Lussier
University of Ottawa
Campus map: http://www.uottawa.ca/maps/CampusMap.pdf

The panel will feature leading Indigenous scholars from across Canada highlighting progress made and challenges lying ahead particularly in relation to the specific goals of the
Accord. We are pleased to announce that Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner Marie
Wilson has agreed to act as respondent and to convey the recommendations for education
from the TRCs final report.
We sincerely hope that you are able to join CASIE, CCPA, ACDE, and CSSE at this important gathering. If you have any questions, or if we can facilitate your presence in any way,
please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,

Lisa Taylor Frank Deer
