Two-Stage Hollow-Valve Rod Pump

Our most popular pump design
Ruggedness and versatility combine to provide the
optimal choice for most pumping conditions.
Moves light to moderate sand without sticking
while handling up to moderate gas-locking
conditions
Large pull tube resists valve-rod buckling
Shallow to deep well applications
Insert and tubing pump configurations in
most sizes
Uses mostly stock parts
Available in materials and surface treatments for
corrosive or abrasive conditions
The Two Stage Hollow-Valve Rod Pump uses twostage compression technology to avoid gas locking.
Heres how: On the downstroke, the upper traveling
valve holds back the hydrostatic head and allows
the lower traveling valve to open without the need to
compress the fluid/gas mixture to a high pressure.
As the downstroke continues, the fluid/gas mixture
from the lower compression chamber moves through
the plunger to the upper compression chamber. At
the start of the upstroke, the lower traveling valve
closes and the standing valve opens to admit new
fluid to the lower compression chamber. During the
upstroke, the fluid/gas mixture in the upper compression chamber is compressed to a higher pressure
until the top traveling valve opens and allows the
fluid to be discharged into the tubing above the
pump completing the pumping cycle.
The pull-tube guide has a generous clearance to
allow sand and other particulates to be flushed from
the upper compression chamber during the upstroke.
This characteristic gives the Two-Stage Hollow-Valve
Rod Pump its versatility in gas-locking applications,
which also produce sand or other particulates.

Variable Slippage Pump (VSP)

(Patent Number 6,273,690)

Fine-tune your VSP to suit

your well
Eliminates gas locking, fluid pound and
gas pound
Adjustable slippage to match needed
gas handling
Easy to adjust by raising or lowering
polished-rod clamp
Increased minimum polished-rod load for greater
sucker-rod life
Corrosion- and abrasion-resistant materials
available
The patented Variable Slippage Pump is a suckerrod-drawn, positive-displacement pump which operates on the principle of pressure equalization just
before the plunger reaches the top of the upstroke.
Existing pump designs rely on the ability of the
pump to produce high pressure in the compression
chamber during the downstroke. This high pressure
is needed to open the traveling valve and allow fluid
and gas to flow through the plunger for lifting to the
surface on the upstroke. Failure of the traveling valve
to open on the downstroke in gassy wells causes a
gas-locked condition and no production.
The VSP has a gradual taper in the upper barrel.
As the plunger enters this taper near the top of the
upstroke, slippage increases past the plunger, and
pressure is equalized above and below the plunger
and traveling valve. Therefore, when the plunger
starts downward, the traveling valve opens easily
since high pressure in the compression chamber has
already been achieved.

Pampa Gas Pump

The best of both worlds

gas and sand handling
in the same pump
Reduces sticking from sand or other particulates
while increasing the compression ratio for fewer
gas problems
Increases run time because of large plunger and
barrel wear areas
Materials for abrasion and corrosion available
For many years, the traditional Harbison-Fischer
Pampa Pump with its long plunger and short
barrel has been a resounding success in solving
particulate-production problems. The Pampa Gas
Pump is a modified Pampa Pump characterized by
a long barrel and long plunger but without a lower
extension. The absence of a lower extension and
the addition of compression-chamber-enhancing
features significantly improve the compression ratio.
This creates a pump that is designed for pumping
problems up to and including severe particulates
and moderate gas locking. The Pampa Gas Pump
will load the pumping unit and produce fluid in the
same manner as any API pump.

Gas Vent Pump

(Patent Number 7,458,787)

Pumps your well down

further and separates the gas
Avoids gas locking and gas interference by
venting gas from the fluid before it is pumped up
the tubing
Maximizes production with the lowest drawdown
of casing fluid level of any pump. Produces fluid
at zero-intake pressure
Slow pumping speeds not a problem
Choice of insert- or tubing-style pump
Materials for corrosive and abrasive environments
available
The patented Gas Vent Pump is a new concept
in sucker-rod pumping. It separates gas from fluid,
producing gas up the casing/tubing annulus and
almost gas-free fluid up the tubing. The unique
gas-separating aspect of this pump is that the lower
plunger passes above the vent ports on the upstroke.
This allows gas to escape from the compression
chamber to the casing. The traveling valves open
on the downstroke when the lower traveling valve
contacts the fluid and the fluid forms a fluid seal
between the lower plunger and lower barrel.
Note that the upper, soft-packed plunger always
strokes above the vent ports and holds back the
hydrostatic pressure above the pump.

Gas Chaser Pump

The best gas-compression
ratio in the field
Reduces gas locking due to a compound
compression ratio that can produce almost
pure gas
Versatile applications for deep or shallow wells
Available in materials and surface treatments for
abrasive and corrosive conditions
The Harbison-Fischer Gas Chaser Pump is designed
for the very worst gas-locking problems that are
encountered in rod-pumped wells. It is similar in
design and theory of operation to the Two-Stage
Hollow-Valve Rod Pump and achieves a higher
compression ratio by using an absolute seal at the
top of the upper compression chamber. The Gas
Chaser Pump transfers the fluid/gas mixture to the
upper compression chamber on the downstroke and
produces this fluid through the hollow upper plunger
on the upstroke. The highest compression ratio is
achieved by spacing the pump from the top.

Loc-No Plunger

The established solution

to gas locking
This simple plunger assembly solves the complex
problem of gas locking.
Diminishes gas locking with a mechanicallyopening traveling valve
Long-wearing, hard inlay on sealing surfaces
(carbide or hard facing)
Complete plunger assembly simplifies installation
The Loc-No Plunger is assembled with a hollowplunger sleeve, a center connecting rod, an upper
connector and a lower drop to seal against the
bottom of the sleeve on each upstroke of the
pump. It has two characteristics that enable it to
open on the downstroke without relying on pump
compression. The movement of the plunger rod
pushes the drop away from the plunger sleeve,
and the friction between the plunger sleeve and the
inside of the barrel tube causes the plunger sleeve to
resist downward movement.

Travel No-Loc Valve

Freedom from gas locking for
the traveling-barrel pump
Reduces gas locking with a mechanically-opening
traveling valve
Long-wearing, hard inlay on sealing surfaces for
long run times
The Travel No-Loc Valve is an adaptation of the
Harbison-Fischer Loc-No Plunger concept for a
traveling-barrel-pump design. This device gives the
traveling-barrel pump an opportunity to work without
gas locking while retaining all of the advantages of
a common traveling-barrel pump. Easily adapts to
the top of all traveling-barrel pumps.

Sliding Top Valve

A simple and efficient solution
for gas locking and
fluid-pound conditions
A favorite accessory that helps your pump work
more smoothly and produce more fluid in gas locking and fluid-pound problem wells.
Isolates hydrostatic pressure from your
traveling valve to enable its opening in
gas-locking conditions
Cushions fluid pound to avoid damage
to your pump
Long-wearing, hard-bronze sliding sleeve
can be abrasion-resistant coated for tough
sand production
Easy pump conversion
For insert and tubing pumps in all sizes
Corrosion-resistant materials available
The Sliding Top Valve has a free-floating, hardbronze sleeve that rides up and down on the valve
rod in a steel housing. On the pumping downstroke,
the sleeve follows the valve rod down and seals off
the hydrostatic pressure from above by shutting off
the fluid-flow passages through the housing. This
simple action removes the hydrostatic pressure load
from the traveling valve and allows it to open at
the beginning of the downstroke without the need
to build up a high pressure in the compression
chamber.
The Sliding Top Valve is also useful to cushion fluid
pound. A part of the downward force that causes
the destruction associated with fluid pound is the
hydrostatic pressure above the plunger acting on
part of the plunger area. The Sliding Top Valve holds
back this hydrostatic head and thus reduces the load
on the plunger when it contacts the fluid.

Set your pump as precisely

as your watch
Reduce gas locking with this new ability to adjust
pump spacing in the shop or field with a locknut
and threaded-valve-rod guide
Various materials for corrosion available
The patented Adjusta-Guide Adjustable ValveRod/Pull-Tube Guide will allow precise spacing of
the plunger off the bottom of an insert-style suckerrod pump and thus gain the maximum compression
ratio. It has 1-1/2 of total valve-rod adjustment
(3/4 up or down).

Back-Pressure Regulator (BPR)

Keep your well from flumping
Isolated spring to reduce particulate plugging
Holds pressure on the tubing to prevent
flumping (alternately flowing off or pumping in
gas conditions)
Improves stuffing-box-packing life by reducing
problems from pumping dry when well flows off
The Back-Pressure Regulator uses an isolated-spring
design with open flow areas to reduce plugging
from coal fines or other particulates. It increases
pressure sensitivity over conventional designs. The
BPR has been tested in scale, paraffin and coal fines
without clogging or degradation of performance.
The maximum pressure rating is 2,500 psi and the
pressure-operating range is 10 psi to 1,000 psi at
up to 200 F.

Thin wall design gives better gas separation due
to a low gas-separation velocity
The Gas Separator is designed to assist with gas
separation in wells that are having gas-interference
problems. It works similarly to a poor-boy-style gas
separator but has larger flow areas for more efficient
gas separation. You can either use the bull plug
on the bottom or the optional bushing that connects
to the Harbison-Fischer Purge Valve. Connection
threads are 2-7/8 EUE 8R.

Tubing Purge Valve

Gets the sand out
Dumps sand from your mud anchor
Simple, dependable design
The Tubing Purge Valve is used when fluids are
produced that contain both gas and sand. It is
installed on the bottom of the mud anchor below the
gas separator to replace the bull plug. The ball and
seat are held closed with a lightly loaded, corrosionresistant spring. When the high-pressure fluid surge
occurs during the closing of the standing valve,
the Purge Valve ball pushes off its seat briefly and
dumps any sand or other particulates.

Bypass Seating Nipple

(Patent Number 5,176,216)

A unique, cheap way to dispose

of produced water downhole
Simple installation and operation
Long-lasting and low cost
Use with any bottom-hold-down-style suckerrod pump
No adjustments
Produced water is disposed of in a lower packedoff formation by using the Bypass Seating Nipple
in conjunction with a casing packer. A rod pump
with a special hold-down/seal assembly is seated in
this special crossover-style seating nipple, which is
attached to the packer. As the rod pump is actuated
by the sucker rods, fluid is pumped from the casing/
tubing annulus to the disposal zone.
