Feather Blowing
Equipment Needed: Enough feathers for each pair of participants
Activity Description: Show group how to cup their hands in order to catch floating feather(s).
Softly blow a feather and have your partner catch it. Give as little or as much help as needed.
Take turns being the blower and catcher. Work towards having kids play while adults assist (as
needed).
Leadership Considerations
Proximity of facilitator to participants: Near (within arms reach) participants as to assist
each individual as needed and to demonstrate/carry out directions in order to maximize
comprehension.
Safety considerations: Make sure children are safe distance from each other as not to
bump into each other.
Targeted Demographic: Individuals with dementia and/or intellectual impairments (e.g., Down
syndrome)
Objective(s): Eye hand coordination, partner play, breathe control and modulation visual,
proprioceptive and vestibular input for children with Autism Spectrum or sensory processing
disorders.
