Disfigured

1. Nothing is really the same and what it seems to be. He overwhelmed me

with compliments, swearing that I was the ideal woman he dreamed of,
praising the quality of my programs and the talent with which I presented
them (Baz 125). Even though he praised her and made her believe she was
special in the end Rachid treated like trash and disregarded all the things he
had said.
2. As much as you might hate someone they deserve a second chance. I gave
him my total pardon. I found excuses for him, stressing that he would never
had acted like that in his normal state. I knew that Rachid risked ten years in
prison and as many as 300 lashes in a public place (Baz 153). Even though he
had disfigured her for life, she still didnt want him to end his life after he
realized what he did was horrible, and gave him a lesser sentence for him to at
least have a shot at a second chance in life.
3. Things can be hard at first but in the end you can do it. Taking refuge
behind false modesty, I swore that I would never be able to do it. But in fact,
as soon as my friend had gone, my pen was scratching the paper furiously as I
attacked my first article (Baz 117). Even though Rania didnt think she could
do it and it was too hard to write she was able to do it and even better than
she thought.
4. Not everyone accepts you for who you are so stay strong and eventual
youll be accepted. Although I presented myself modestly with my scarf over
my head, many men still refused to meet me. I never insisted because it was
they who had to take the step of accepting me, not the other way around (Baz
122).
5. Some people might stay in the past while you have to push for the future
and change. Saudi society, particularly the middle classes, is still very
hesitant about mixed marriages. My father didnt oppose the marriage outright
because he was relieved to see me go (Baz 129). The people still thought that
Africans were considered slaves, and Rached was not only an African but a
singer which Ranias father rejected any idea of marriage.
6. You cant trust people that you know and see every day fully. What I heard
disgusted me. One of the teachers was explaining to the other, who had just
arrived at the university: Dont bother yourself all these students are useless
and in any case we shouldnt teach them too much, or theyll steal our jobs
(Baz 106). Even though these were Ranias teachers they didnt want to help
them out for their own selfish needs, and were jealous of their own pupils.

7. You have to think wisely before you make a decision for your sake you and
those close to you. He was alive. I confirmed to both the police and judges
that I forgave him; my position on that had not altered. I was thinking above all
of the children. I wanted them to grow up in peace (Baz 40). Rania even
though didnt like what had happened was thinking of what was best for her
children and forgave him which was so noble of her she got custody over the
kids for life.
8. In the end good things come to those who wait. He refused her advances,
however, and was duly thrown into prison. He was known for talent to interpret
dreams and one day was asked to interpret one of the kings dreams, in which
seven fat cows ate seven thin cows. The king organized the saving and storing
of crops throughout the land and w Josephs predictions came true, the
kingdom was well prepared for the disaster, and Joseph was freed by the
grateful king (Baz 2). This shows that those who wait through bad conditions
will eventually end up happy like the drought and when the crops was abundant
and when Joseph was thrown in prison and released in the end.
9. Work hard and be persistent and youll achieve your goals no matter who
you are. In his opinion, Jamal should had shown responsibility and much
courage in taking care of his family; instead of being penalized, he deserved to
be rewarded (Baz 80). Jamal worked hard and tried his best and in the end he
finally got married to Rania for all his hard work when he was a soldier in the
military and didnt have a lot of income.
10.
Good things can come out of bad things which helps you through the
bad times. A strange chemistry between us and our bond tightened. Wed had
to wait nearly twenty years! We became friends and then even companions
(Baz 97). Rania hadnt bonded with her mother in twenty years and now in
Ranias tragic time and time in need she has her and is bonding which helped
her get through the divorce and move on.
