The "Palm Islands" is a civil, located in Dubai with the purpose of building urban

housing, sports centers, buildings, hotels, among others. Its main objective is to
turn the city into a tourist site, because only until 2016 the city will have its
largest source of income which is oil. The project took four years of planning,
began to develop in early 2001 and it was estimated that by the year 2006 and
were completed. Particularly noteworthy in this task was the mode of
development that had, since it did not affect the environment, as their method of
construction was developed with natural materials (sand and stone), sand was
extracted about 12 km from the work offshore, which also facilitated transport.
Its shape and design is focused on the palms and this in turn is composed of
three parts, the trunk is where the main entrances, their fronds that simulates
palm leaves and will be for residential use, and is increasing as breakwater
which runs surrounding the island.
