Mrs. Waldron was able to purchase 20 extra iPads for 3°, 4" and 5" grades and also purchased Brain Pop. In addition, the PTO purchased RAZKids and Smart Responses (three sets of 24 for classrooms and one set of 32 for the computer lab). + Explained the situation in the cafeteria: People working for Aramark care for our children. Reviewed two incidents that occurred recently. There was a report of outdated milk, which she contacted Aramark and found that the milk was not outdated; the “date” ‘was actually a time stamp. The other situation occurred the day we came back from break and the yogurt smelled bad, She called Aramark and was told the yogurt has a sell by date, not an expiration date. She instructed Aramark not to have any food products with expired dates in our cafeteri +A video on Common Core was put together and is on our district website and recommended that members wateh it as it has important information, + On March 18", there will be a Common Core Camp which will help kids and parents s what will be on the NIASK tests. + Digital Learning Month throughout the district for teachers. Teachers are learning and using technology. APPROVED FOR DISTRIBUTION Middletown Township Public Schools Wredu SSS ur math specialist came up with a Family Engineering Night which is planned for our 3" prade families on the evening of Feb 13", Enrichment Activity: Stock Market started today, runs 14 weeks, Mrs. Hesslei Keats and Mrs. Sabolchick will oversee. Miss. Enrichment board is outside in the hallway, it's all about Olympics. Another enrichment activity is the trivia board, Wellness Initiative: Jump Rope Club. Joe Pollo, our Crossing Guard is amazing. Mrs. DeSpirito: Blood Bank needs blood desperately. Blood Bank will donate $500 to Fairview if have a total of 75 blood donors between this blood drive and another blood drive on May 22". Fairview 5" Grade students were chosen as Jump Rope for Heart Team at the Heart Association Convention, The students will be going to four schools in Middletown. A vote will be taken in New Business to sponsor a bus for them, which will cost up to $450. Approval of Minutes Motion to accept minutes was made by Mr. Kapur and seconded by Mr. Cunningham and was approved by voice vote, Committee Reports - Christine Stockhausen PIC update - Donna Ferreira December: Jay Atiya addressed and gave update: focused on acquiring Chrome Books for 3" grade and higher. Every classtoom from district has six devices in every classroom, Smart Boards and iPads in classroom. Increased bandwidth curently district purchase more bandwidth in the future. Updated classroom computers, Jay said if the kids are complaining about tech problems, they should tell the teacher and the teacher will report to Principal and then Jay’s office, His technicians will come out to fix the computers, Chrome Books are for K-5. District is looking for 1 to 1 device to student ratio for 3°, 6" and 9" grades. They are upgrading labs and software where needed. Stal? training for Smart Boards comes from in service aids. They will be upgrading phone systems with grants they have received, there are nine proposals. By the end of January we will get info on how to customize the phone blasts. Conferences: they were late because of Hanukkah, next year they will be right after Thanksgiving. Last week’s meeting: working on calendar for next year. Administr istening to the parents that want earlier start and end dates. They will ry (o curtail half days; Dr George explained they necded the half days for training, Budget: New Board will be reviewing, due date to the state is the end of March, but it might be pushed back a little bit, District has chosen a vendor for demographic study which will be looking at population, ensollment and will give report 5 years out what enrollment will be in each school, and this is a strategic plan to see if anything needs to be done. There is talk about Public Referendum, Dr. George and Amy Gallagher applied for over 30 million dollars in Jobs, 39 jobs, granted 40% ($12.3 million), administration is looking for Middletown taxpayers to pick up tab for $17 million which will pay for roofs on every school, HVAC and 2 new boilers. Committee working on contracts, School websites: it was brought up if district is truly going green vs, printing; there is a need for more uniformity across school websites and communication; middle school teachers met about block scheduling as there is a problem with overcrowding. jew Focus ~ Ravi Kapur + There was a great response for 1" issue and for the 2" issue there is not a Jot of written material; please encourage your children to provide a submission, Ravi is putting 2"! issue together, He will begin putting it together ‘on the 20" and it should come out by the 30th, Issue #3 will come out around the 3” week of February, School Play ~ Sheryl Fallon and Val DeMatteo + Rehearsals are going well, kids working hard, parent volunteers are great. Special thanks to the three 1° grade teachers, as the kids are in their classrooms during practices and rehearsals. Applebee's Breakfast — Lynn Schaller + Party for cast and crew. Charging only $5 a ticket as this is not a fundraiser and the whole schoo! is invited, The date is January 25", Red Carpet for the cast Will be set up inside from 8AM -10AM. There will be a sign up genius for volunteers,. We need paparazzi, bus boys and servers. Donna Ferreira \dergarten Orientation * Scheduled for February 26", April 23" and May 28" at 9:30 AM. Flyer is completed will be going on Virtual Backpack any day. We need a lot of volunteers for those days. Student Assemblies - John Craig + Meet the Musicians was held on Monday. The feature composer was Beethoven, Went very well Fundraising + Casino Night ~ Bob Schweikert thanked Lynn Schaller for all her hard work and service to the PTO, Casino Night is scheduled for March 1*. Lynn reviewed incentives. Raffle ticket incentive 1) People were entered into lottery to win $35 pre-sale gift auction ticket if you picked up your raffle tickets. 2) Whoever sells the most admission tickets wins $50 raifle drop tickets, 3) Whoever sells the most gets free admission ticket to Casino Night. Extending ticket sales deadline to January 27". This event is in jeopardy of cancellation due to lack of support from the community. We need to sell 125 pre-sale tickets to move forward with this event. «© Ow! Grams ~ Lisette Sheehan said order form will be posted on VBP, $1 each. Choice of Lollipops or Hershey Bar, distributed on Valentine's Day. If an Owl Gram is not purchased for a child, that child will get one from Mr. Feathers. + Pretzel Day — Blena DeGeorge. Pretzel days will be last Friday of every month. This month’s will be Jan 31°. Week prior a pre-printed envelope will go home sind pre-orders are due the Wednesday before. Pretzels will be delivered right after lunch. Treasurers Report — Lisa Novak * Holiday Gift Shoppe, awaiting invoice trom Kids Kastle, should make approximately $2,000. + Pie Sale made $93. * Theater Productions: Have not sold tickets yet. Corrected number will be in the minutes, + We gave the office staff and custodians holiday gifts that totaled $70, and Gift Card for Hesslein as a welcome gif for $30. * PTO bought the technology that was voted on at a previous voting meeting Unfinished Business + Vole - whete Casino Night and Raffle proceeds should be spent: Ideas were an Outdoor Classroom (which would need security), Sound System for the Ow!’'s Nest, and lighting for Owls Nest was added, Please send i as. Vole was tabled. + Ravi Kapur agreed to do our website. New Business + Motion to spend money for bus for 5" grade Jump roping team was made by Val DeMatteo and seconded by Ravi Kapur, motion passed. AOB + Bowling is almost over, 17" last bowling date. + Chuck E. Cheese fundraiser postponed, + B& N/Cheeburger Cheeburger is scheduled for February 20"
