Phases of Throwing

Overhand throwing is an unnatural motion on the arm; therefore


we must use the rest of our body as much as possible to fulfill
the motion -> full body motion

Phases:
-Wind up
Body twists 90 degress
Front shoulder facing target
- Load phase
Weight transfer backward
Arm comes backward/downward
Separation spread the wings
- Acceleration phase
Hip rotation
Trunk rotation
Squish the bug
- *release point
- Deceleration phase
Body is slowing down, but cant halt
Rotation of arm, trunk, and shoulder continues
Follow through
Steps to teaching:

Demonstrate steps
Students follow along one step at a time
Students complete full motion
Students complete motion with a ball
Play catch back and forth
