Journal Entry #2
During this week, I learned about the technology available to prevent pregnancy
or even protect against STDs. There are contraceptives for both male and female. For
the male, the most common contraceptive is a rubber latex armor also known as a
condom. It goes over an erected penis and prevents sperm from entering the vagina of
a female. For females, there are a number of contraceptives available. Most common
one is a diaphragm it is a cover for the cervix and allows sperm to be impenetrable. The
diaphragm can be used with spermicide to further lower the success rate of pregnancy.
I feel like with the best no condom sex for males, the diaphragm can be a safe way to
have unprotected sex and not worry about the females taking medicines/birth control.
This brings up another interesting subject of birth control. Birth control as a
contraceptive that raises hormones for woman and causes the cervix to thin so getting
fertilized is near impossible. What I understand is females on birth control tend to gain
a little weight, and the failure rate is 3-8% which is very good. Having a female girlfriend
on birth control might even increase the size of her breasts which is a plus in my book.
