English language is used worldwide as a lingua franca amongst various webs of

relations and as a mean of communication. Thus, the proficiency of the language is crucial
amongst the speaker. Hence, through the attained proficiency of English language what
means can English be used to promote, empower and respond to globalization?
Promote is defined as to advance in a station, rank or honour (Merriam-Webster
Dictionary, 2015). Endorsing a particular matter through the use of English language widens
the audience of the matter. For example, when an advertisement of a product is done in
English language it increases its scope audiences. Thus, with wider audience the
advertisement had advanced to the next level and will be able to compete as a globalized
product.
On the other hand, empower can be defined as to give power or authority to
someone (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2015). English proficiency empowers a person. It
can either empower someone through verbal communication or through written work. For
example, through the proficiency of English, a nations leader is able to close a deal with
another nations leader as both leaders are empowered by their language proficiency to
communicate.
Responding to globalization is a vast scope. Hence, I would like to narrow the scope
to an individual response towards globalization. Without English proficiency an individual
might find it hard to respond to globalization. Today, most jobs require an employee that is
able to communicate in English. The reason being is because with the proficiency of English
an employee will be able to develop holistically not only for the benefits of the employee but
also for the good of the company.
In conclusion, through the attained proficiency of English language can be used to
promote, empower and respond to globalization. Therefore, as an individual that desires to
achieve betterment in life we should strive and grab every opportunity as well as by learning
and having English language proficiency we are able to promote, empower and respond to
globalization without any difficulty.
