Introduction (0-5 minutes) Jason
This is a year 8 science class on energy. They have done three
lessons already. We looked at what energy is, energy transfer,
energy transformation and the Law of Conservation.
Today we will apply our learning so far to looking at renewable
energies to look at solving the problem of climate change.
So today we are going to do Steps 1 & 2 on the WebQuest:
Watch a YouTube video to give you the context of the activities
Do a brainstorm to assess your knowledge on renewable
energy sources
We will assign you into groups to research one type of
renewable energy
Compile your research findings into a Padlet designated for
your group.

In a full 50-minute lesson the year 8s you would be guided through

steps 3 and 4 where they submit a proposal to Australias Chief
Scientist. In the final activity today you will evaluate the use of ICT
used in this WebQuest.

Discuss objectives (Jeremy)
In this WebQuest your role is a scientist as part of a think tank group
commissioned to research the advantages and disadvantages of
renewable energy sources.
Your team is to prepare a report to Australias Chief Scientist whose
role it is to provide independent, scientific advice to the
government.
Your team is to research one of six renewable energy sources and
evaluate which you would advise the government to invest in
developing for Australias future energy needs. You will be assigned
a team and a renewable energy resource to research.
Explain and do Step 1 (5-10) minutes (Jeremy)
