A steering arm is contained completely within the support structure of the marine pro= pulsion system and disposed about its steering axis. An extension of the steering arm extends into a sliding joint which has a linear component and a rotational component which allow the extension of the steering arm to move relative to a moveable second portion of the steering actua- tor. The moveable second portion of the steering actuator moves linearly within a eylinder cavity formed in a first portion of the steering actuator. 20 Claims, 9 Drawing Sheets 152 134 180 141 US 6,402,577 BL Sheet 1 of 9 Jun. 11, 2002 U.S. Patent Luv HOI U.S. Patent Jun. 11, 2002 Sheet 2 of 9 US 6,402,577 BL FIG. 2 PRIOR ART U.S. Patent Jun. 11, 2002 Sheet 3 of 9 US 6,402,577 BL FIG. 3A US 6,402,577 BL Sheet 4 of 9 Jun. 11, 2002 U.S. Patent US 6,402,577 BL Sheet 5 of 9 Jun. 11, 2002 U.S. Patent N U.S. Patent Jun. 11, 2002 Sheet 6 of 9 US 6,402,577 BL U.S. Patent Jun. 11, 2002 Sheet 7 of 9 US 6,402,577 BL 2h i 226, ZL. i ESS; 222 142 140 130 230 90“) 154 200 os LEZ. ert AZZ Y V3 QV] 3 Ne: Ze Za tT SPILL 1 SSSA AAA oes / 150 126 152 134 141 i FIG. 7B US 6,402,577 BL Sheet 8 of 9 Jun, 11, 2002 U.S. Patent Dox
