BIOGRAPHY

Onika Tanya Maraj(born December 8,1982), better

known by her stage nameNicki Minaj, is an
American rapper, singer and songwriter. Born in
Saint James, Trinidad and Tobagoand raised
inJamaica, Queens,New York, Minaj earned public
attention after releasing three mixtapes between
20072009. She signed a recording contract
withYoung Money Entertainment in 2009.

EARLY LIFE
Nicki Minaj had a trouled childhood. When she was 4
or 5 years old, her parents took her to live with them
in New York City, NYC is where she really grew up
and witnessed some domestic violence. When she
was very Young her father tried to kill her mother by
burning down the house with her mother in it,
However, her mother escaped, and her parents have
reconciled, they remain married and live together to
this day. Her father was also an alcoholic and took
drugs even in her presence. She talks about this in
her song called autobiography.

She knew she wanted to become a performer, so

she worked hard to get into a special NYC high
school for the performing arts called LaGuardia
High school, however, her speciality in school was
acting and not singing. Upon graduation she
started concentrating more on her music career.
That is when she started posting her music to her
personal page on Myspace. It was from there that
she was discovered and her career has taken off
sincen then.
