Available online 11 February 2003.

Abstract

Non-destructive inspection techniques are a key to the level of quality and

reliability achieved from lithium batteries. These inspection techniques must be
implemented throughout the manufacturing process to ensure a safe and reliable
battery. The paper discusses the experience accumulated in raw material
inspection, in in-process inspection and in final acceptance tests. Some of the
practical difficulties are identified.
