VectaStar Gigabit ODU-M

System datasheet (26 & 28GHz)

The VectaStar Metro is a range of compact outdoor units (ODU-M) for backhauling small cells and other
technologies where low visual impact in a street level environment is imperative. Operating in the 26 and 28
GHz frequency bands, VectaStar Metro offers capacities up to 700 Mbps gross throughput per sector and up to
350 Mbps gross throughput per small cell. VectaStar Metro is compatible with the proven and market leading
family of Carrier Class VectaStar Gigabit point-to-multi-point products. This provides a complete solution
where the macro and small cell layers can be mixed to meet individual network requirements.
VectaStar Metro has a small and inconspicuous form factor and weighs only 5.4kg, making it easy to install on
lamp posts and walls in urban environments. Special new low profile antenna configurations have been
employed to maximise coverage whilst minimising the overall dimensions of the outdoor unit. A range of up to
2.5km can typically be achieved.
VectaStar Metro can be deployed as a standalone single sector outdoor-only installation. Additionally
VectaStar Metro can be deployed within a wider network of VectaStar Gigabit ODU-S and Radio Controller
equipment to create multi-sector protected radio hubs (1+1 and 2+0) which provide aggregation and a single
interface to the core network. Traffic from the network edge (e.g. 2G, 3G, LTE, Wi-Fi, etc.) is backhauled by the
connected RT to the sector AP. Within each sector, bandwidth is statistically multiplexed across multiple RTs in
accordance with operator-defined QoS parameters. This dynamic allocation avoids the wasteful spectrum
usage associated with PtP links. VectaStar systems support 7-state adaptive modulation for superior
performance in all weather conditions.

METRO ACCESS POINT (AP-M)

The VectaStar Metro AP (AP-M) is an integrated antenna, radio,
modem and network interface unit. An AP-M can operate a single
sector without any additional indoor equipment (Zero-footprint mode),
backhauling traffic from up to 8 RTs and terminating it on a single
GigE interface. Up to 30 RTs per AP-M can be supported with the
addition of the Radio Controller. Power and data are provided to the
AP-M over a single CAT-5e cable or by 2-core cable for power and a
single mode fibre for data.

METRO REMOTE TERMINAL (RT-M)

The VectaStar Gigabit ODU-M RT (RT-M) offers full duplex throughput
up to the available sector capacity of 350Mbps gross (300Mbps net
Ethernet) at 256QAM in a 28MHz channel. Power and data are
provided over a single CAT-5e cable. Optionally, DC power may be
supplied by 2-core cable. Alignment of the RT-M to the sector AP-M
can be performed using the dedicated alignment interface (BNC) and
a standard voltmeter.
