Leukemia

By: Ariana Green

Is

Leukemia more common

in men, women, or
children ?

Driving Question

Research Process
While doing this project, I did an
analysis. I analyzed what leukemia
is, how it forms, the different types,
and treatments.

Living with Leukemia can be hard

to understand due to the lack of
knowledge about this disease.

Thesis Statement

Majority of the childhood leukemias are of the acute form

Acute leukemia is more common in men than women.
Two types of acute leukemia: acute lymphoblastic and acute myelogenous
Most cases of leukemia occur in people who are 60 years of age or older.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is more common in Caucasians than African
Americans
Chronic leukemia can be classified as chronic lymphocytic an chronic
myeloid
Treatment involves two types of therapy introduction and continuation
therapy.
Doctors take leukemia strains to help diagnose specific types of leukemia

Research findings

During

this project, my results supported my

driving question. Leukemia isnt more common
in men, women, or children. Anyone can get
this disease.

Leukemia

accounts for 2% of all cancers

It affects nine times as many adults as
children.
The incidence of acute leukemia is slightly
higher among men than women
Kids with Down Syndrome or other genetic
abnormalities have a higher rate of getting
leukemia.

Results

Throughout

this whole process I have become more

knowledgeable about Leukemia. I chose this topic because
I didnt know anything about it. Ive never really heard
anyone talk about it. Most people dont even know what
Leukemia is. I have learned so much. I learned that since
there are more Caucasians in America, they are more
likely to get this disease than any other race. This disease
has made me more aware than I ever thought I would be.

Leukemia is a common form of cancer of

the blood cells. There are several types of
leukemia that require different treatments.
Treatment depends on the specific type of
leukemia and its stage. Surgery isnt an
option.

Reflection

After

doing research, I have decided to

pursue another career choice. I plan to go
to Nashville State and major in Surgical
Technology.

topic this was where I got my hours done.
